Balayage vs. Highlights: Choosing the Right Technique

Balayage
A hand-painted technique where lightener is applied freehand to create soft, blended dimension. The result grows out softly with no hard root line, so balayage usually goes longer between visits than foil highlights; we set your schedule at your consultation. Offered as Full or Half balayage.
Highlights
Foils create more defined, uniform brightness. They produce a bolder contrast and work well for clients who want maximum dimension or who are going significantly lighter. Offered as Full or Half highlights.

Single Process and Double Process Color

Single process covers gray roots or refreshes your all-over color. It typically needs a touchup every 4 to 6 weeks. MAK Salon uses professional formulas that condition while they color, so your hair feels healthy after the service, not dry.

Double process is a two-step service for clients who need a full color change: going from dark to light, correcting unwanted tones, or achieving a dramatically different shade. The first step lightens. The second step deposits the target color. This is the right service when you are making a major change, not just maintaining.

Glaze, Toner, and Faceframe Services

Glaze is a semi-permanent color treatment that adds shine and refreshes tone without altering your base color. It lasts 4 to 6 weeks and is a low-commitment way to enhance your natural hair or extend the life of a color service. Clients who get balayage often add a glaze at their maintenance appointments to keep their tone bright between full services.

Toner neutralizes unwanted warm or brassy tones after lightening. It can be added to highlight and balayage services or booked on its own; your stylist will tell you if you need it.

Faceframe places highlights only around the hairline and face. It is the lightest touch of color and brightens your look without a full commitment, a good fit if you want a low-maintenance change.

Color Correction

Color correction is for hair that has been damaged, over-processed, or colored incorrectly. Maybe a result elsewhere came out too dark, too brassy, or uneven. Maybe a box color at home did not go as planned.

At MAK Salon, color correction starts with a free consultation, and it is priced there because every situation is different. Some corrections take one session. Others require two or three visits spaced weeks apart to safely lift, tone, and restore your hair without causing further damage.

How Long Does Hair Color Last?

Longevity depends on the technique and your home care routine. Single process color typically needs a touchup at 4 to 6 weeks. Balayage usually grows out longer between visits than foil highlights; we set your schedule at your consultation. Glazes fade gradually over 4 to 6 weeks.

Minerals in tap water and summer humidity can dull color over time; a chelating shampoo once a week helps, along with sulfate-free daily products to protect your color. The team will walk you through the right products during your appointment.
