The Foiling Process

Full highlights take longer on long or thick hair, so tell us your goals when you book and we will reserve the right amount of time. The process involves sectioning the hair and placing thin strands into foils with lightener. The number of foils, the lightener formula, and the processing time are all customized for your hair.

After processing, a toner can neutralize unwanted warmth and set the cool, warm, or neutral tone you discussed at your consultation; your stylist will tell you if you need it. A glaze can be added for extra shine.

Full Highlights vs Half Highlights

Full highlights
Cover the entire head from top to bottom, including the crown, sides, back, and underneath. This is the right choice if you want an all-over brightness boost or if you are going significantly lighter.
Half highlights
Focus on the top layer and around the face. They create brightness where it is most visible while leaving the underneath untouched. This is lower maintenance, but less dramatic than a full head.

Maintaining Your Highlights

Foil highlights usually need a touchup sooner than balayage; we set your schedule at your consultation. Between appointments, use sulfate-free shampoo, and a purple shampoo once a week if you have blonde highlights. Minerals in tap water and summer humidity can dull color over time and push blonde toward brassy; a chelating shampoo once a week helps.
